Maurice passed away Wednesday morning at Crystal Heights Care Center at the age of 91 years, two months and 6 days.

Maurice Presley Whitehurst, son of Enoch and Ruth Wright Whitehurst, was born October 29, 1920 in Bricelyn, Minnesota. At age 15, the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. He was united in marriage to Jo Ella Olsen. Maurice served in the Merchant Marines and later the Army, serving in Manila. He was discharged September 27, 1949. Upon his discharge, Maurice went to work as a welder. He worked in the Alaska for 12 years and later for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, working in Pittsburg and Des Moines. Maurice lived in Centerville, Iowa prior to moving to Oskaloosa in 2008. He was a past member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges and the American Legion.

Maurice is survived by a good friend, Tonya Van Dusseldorp.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Newell, Harold, Russell and Gerald.

Visitation: Will begin at 9 am Friday morning, January 6, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. Graveside Service: 10:30 am Friday morning January 6, 2012 at Old White Cemetery. A procession will form at the chapel at 10:15 to proceed to the cemetery. Interment: Old White Cemetery.
