She was born December 5, 1927 in Alleghany County to the late Leroy Carlyle Hampton and Mahala Jane Edwards Hampton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Walter Clifton Phipps Sr.; also two brothers, Reid and R.C. Hampton.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy P. (Bill) Lawrence of Scranton, Joyce P. (Joe) Scott of Mocksville and Jayne Phipps (Randy) Boger of Sparta; three sons, Jimmy (Sonia) Phipps of Farmington, Walter Clifton (Susan) Phipps Jr. of Mocksville and Jeffrey Phipps of Mocksville; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one sister, Irene Hampton Jones of Greensboro; one brother, Lewis Hampton of Sparta.
A memorial service was held Saturday, December 11, at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville. Burial at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sparta, NC.
