Ada Verna (Schuchard) Schauer was born May 23, 1917, at Peter's Siding,
southeast of Napoleon, to Claus and Louise (Fenske) Schuchard. She was baptized
June 21, 1917, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Ada grew up on her
parents' farm three miles southeast of Napoleon, receiving her education at
Napoleon Public School. Ada was confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran Church May
17, 1931. Before her marriage, Ada worked at Logan County Courthouse in
Napoleon. On March 16, 1937, she was united in marriage to Bert Schauer in
Napoleon. The couple farmed hand in hand and raised their 13 children on their
farm seven miles southeast of Napoleon.
Ada also managed to have a huge garden every summer. She canned hundreds of jars
of fruits and vegetables, pickles being her specialty. Ada devoted her life to
her family and friends, welcoming them with open arms, serving countless meals,
while never asking anything in return. Everyone looked forward to her homemade
bread, kuchen, dumplings and upside-down rhubarb cake. After the couple retired
from farming in 1978, Ada continued to show her love for her children by making
homemade craft items and Christmas gifts. The couple moved to Napoleon in 1983.
Bert passed away July 1, 1989.
Ada moved into Wishek Nursing Home apartments in August 2002. On Sept. 15, 2004,
she entered Wishek Home for the Aged and continued to live there until she went
to be with our Lord Dec. 7, 2007. Ada was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran
Church, Napoleon, where she was a charter member of Lutheran Women's Missionary
Aid. Ada was an avid quilter. Her love was shown in every stitch of the handmade
quilts that she made for each of her children and grandchildren. She also
donated many quilts directly to needy families in Germany.
Ada's memory will be cherished by five sons, Robert (Donna) Schauer, Bismarck,
Thomas (Sandy) Schauer, Fargo,Charles (Terry) Schauer, Sioux Falls, S.D., Bert
(Diana) Schauer, Mapleton, Iowa, and Jerry Schauer, Mandan; eight daughters,

S.C., and Linda (Curt) Michaelsohn, Wishek; one brother, LeRoy Schuchard,
Bothell, Wash.; 44 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren.
