Mr. Sampson, who died Thursday, was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and from 1950 to 1968. He retired as a technical sergeant in 1968.
Mr. Sampson moved to Spokane in 1968 and in 1969 married Edna Watson in Spokane. He worked for Spokane School District 81 in the maintenance department from 1968 until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Sampson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474.
His wife died in 1997. Survivors include a son, Charles Sampson of Spokane; a daughter, Emma Horne of Nevada; four stepsons, Richard Knowles and Albert Watson, both of Spokane, Len Watson of Otis Orchards and Loren Knowles of Loon Lake; two stepdaughters, Carmelita Bredesen of Nine Mile Falls and Barbara Bilbery of Oregon; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
