Lawrence was the son of David Sylvester Sloppy and Mary Idella Donaldson. He married Celina R. Carrow on August 13, 1927. He died in Kane Summit Hospital.

Lawrence and Celina were the parents of two children:
1. Ruth Irene (Sloppy) Sluga
2. Donna Jean (Sloppy) Hartman


Note: Lawrence's gravestone and SSDI entry both report his birth date as November 22, 1900; however, he was an infant at the time of the enumeration of the 1900 Census (June 1900), so he was born in November 1899.
