John Harley Selkirk was the son of Osee and Prudence (Adams) Selkregg. He was the husband of Laura Ann (Holden) Selkirk. He was Buffalo, New York's first architect and builder. In 1870 he designed and built a gray stone double house in Greek revival style at 205 and 207 Niagara Street between Huron Street and Georgia Street for he and his son. In 1876 he designed and built Delaware Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church - constructed of medina sandstone. In 1917 it became known as Buffalo: Asbury Delaware Methodist Church.
