Resident of Monte Sereno
Barbara Fern Bagby passed peacefully December 17, 2011 with immediate family at her side, 12 days before her 93rd birthday. Born December 29, 1918 in Pacific Grove, California to Harvey and Mabel (Kent) Stutzman, Barbara had two sisters and one brother. She graduated from Pacific Grove High in 1937 having been Student Body President and active in sports. "She is the mirror of all courtesy," it was written of her then, and stood true for her lifetime.
Graduating from San Jose State College in 1941 with a degree in Education, she taught for three years in the Monterey area. In 1942 she married longtime sweetheart Delos "Ace" Bagby. They settled in Los Gatos where Ace became principal at Cambrian School, later becoming district superintendent. Barbara created a loving and comfortable home for her husband, eventually giving birth to two children, Barbara ("Bobbie") and Steven ("Josh.")
Throughout her life she deeply enjoyed natural flora and fauna, especially birds and listening to breezes rustling the leaves. She loved traveling with her husband and family, ballroom dancing, attending cultural events, walking, reading, and gardening.
Beloved by her family and a circle of lifelong friends, Barbara will be remembered for her gracious and welcoming ways, her practical nature, remarkable memory, dignity, elegance, and unassuming humility about her accomplishments.
She leaves behind her husband Ace, daughter Bobbie, son Josh, son-in-law George, brother Jack, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, and their children.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124 or charity of your choice . A private memorial service is planned.
