When he was admitted to the National Home in Milwaukee, he claimed his occupation was "policeman", however, research shows that he served at least two separate felony sentences in the state of Missouri during the 1880s.

He first married Elizabeth Reed on 13 Jul 1879. Apparently, this marriage ended in divorce.

He next married Elizabeth Gunther on 1 Jan 1896. This marriage ended in divorce on 20 Jan 1904.

He then married Mrs Virginia Wheeler in Mar 1905.

Walter Hobbs, who died at the hospital on Friday, Sept 11, was buried on Saturday from the Home Chapel, Father Mortell officiating. The remains were interred in the Home Cemetery.
