From Civil War Military Records:Bromly, Arthur. Age 22. Residence Boone County,IANativity Massachusetts. Enlisted May 13,1864 into Co H 44th Iowa Infantry.(100 day enlistment) Mustered June 1, 1864 Davenport,IA. Mustered out Sept. 15, 1864, Davenport, Iowa, expiration of term of service.Regiment, which was composed mostly of older men, was ordered to Memphis,TN to relieve experienced soldiers who were sent to the front in Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. They were assigned to guard railroads, bridges, arsenals, etc from damage wrought by guerrillas in the area.
