Beattyville - William David Bates, 77, died Saturday at his home near here after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was a veteran of World War I.


He is survived by his wife Pearlie (Macintosh) Bates, two sons, Woodrow Bates, Beattyville, and Rudolph Bates, Cincinnati; four daughters, Mrs. Allie Miller, Mrs. Beatrice Head, Mrs. Lillie Mae Magner and Mrs. Ruby Doone, all of Cincinnati; three brothers, Golden Bates, Cincinnati, Frank Bates, Hamilton, Ohio, George Bates, Tyner, Kentucky and a half-brother, Manuel Bates, Ford, Kentucky and two sisters, Lola (Bates) Tuve, Summit, S.D., and Mae (Bates) Powell, Cincinnati, Ohio.


Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Newnam Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Stone Coal Cemetery, Lee County, kentucky. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday.
