Shirley was the daughter of Hiram Mininger and Rosa A. Lantz.
She married Herbert Malhenzie on Aug. 14, 1953. Children of Shirley Lee Mininger and Herbert Malhenzie are Douglas Herbert Malhenzie (Pi Ra), Michael John Malhenzie, and Cathy Lee Malhenzie.
According to the Waterville Times of New York, Shirley was the top student and valedictorian of her class at Oriskany Falls High School in 1953. She was editor of the school newspaper, and the yearbook, and sang in the chorus. She was also president of the student council.
