Married to James Simmons on Nov. 14, 1891 in St. Benedict, KS.

(Pawnee Library, book of obits in the Pawnee Republican.)

MRS. MARY SIMMONS

Mary Selback was born on March 12, 1870, at Emporia, Kans., and passed away at the Gordon Nursing Home in Pawnee City on March 13, 1963, at the age of 93 years and one day.

Early in August of 1962 she suffered a hip injury, and at her advanced age, with all the medical skill and kind hands could do, she failed to recover from the shock and had bee an invalid ever since.

On Nov. 14, 1891, she was married to James Simmons at st. Benediot, Kans., Kans., and to this union seven children were born. Her husband and three children, Anne, William and Mary, preceded her in death.

After the death of her husband in 1910, she and the eldest son carried on the home. Her cheerful disposition and unselfish ways endeared her to many people, she was always more concerned about others than about herself, and her friendliness made for her many friends.

She loved flowers and music and especially enjoyed her young neighbor, Cathy Dusenbery, who during her last years often played and sang for her.

She leaves to mourn her passing her two sons, Edward of Pawnee City and Bernard J. of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. John Hauner of Steinauer and Mrs. Lawrence Kerl of Pawnee City; four grandchildren; 1 foster grandson, Michael Amos, of Mobile, Ala.; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at the wherry Mortuary, Rev. W. N. Wallis officiating. Mrs. Jean Crom and Mrs. Laura Turnbull sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Beyond The Sunset," and Miss Cathy Dusenbery sang "In The garden." The flower ladies were Mrs. Ferald Benz, Mrs. Ervin Kerl and Cathy Dusenbery. The pallbearers were Lloyd Matthews, Robert McVitty, Glenn Binder, Ray Slater, Bill Kerl and Henry Schultz.

Burial was in the Pawnee City cemetery.
