per his obit probably published in local Saybrook Newspaper in 1958: Saybrook--Kelly Moss Hale, 68, Saybrook, died at 5PM Friday (July 18, 1958) in the Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City, Ford Co, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 2PM Monday at the Saybrook Evangelical United Brethren Church, Rev. Willis Locke officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, McLean Co, Illinois. Friends may call after 7PM Saturday at the Easterbrook Funeral Home, Saybrook.
Mr. Hale was born July 15, 1890 in Andersonville, Anderson Co, Tennessee, son of Joseph and Sara Emma* Weaver - Hale. He married Bertie M. Spangler on July 18, 1910 in Tennessee. The couple moved to Illinois in 1911 and spent the rest of their lives around Saybrook and Arrowsmith.
He leaves his wife, four sons, Clyde and Earl of Saybrook, Woodrow of Detroit, Mich., Moss Jr.(Junior Lee), Marietta, Ga.; 3 daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Porter, Saybrook, Mrs Margaret Hinton, Danville, and Mrs Irene Hinton, Rantoul, 3 brothers, Ed, Saybrook, Ernest(Deck), Powell Station, TN, and John, Bell Gardens, CA, 1 sis, Celiea Weaver, Kankakee, 3 half sisters, Edith, Maude and Ollie all of Tennessee and 14 grandchildren.
Moss Kelly was raised in the Primative Baptist Church in TN as a child, when he & Bertie moved to IL the closest denomination they found was Evangelical United Brethren.....his dad, uncle, etc etc were all ministers or elders of the church
He also told one of my older cousins that we were "Black Dutch" from Eastern TN....after researching this, it could also mean Melugeon or tri-racial(white, Indian & black mix) family lines.....
