"A.A. Greene died at his home in this city Thursday evening at 8 o'clock p.m. Mr. Greene had been a resident of Speed for nearly twenty years. He came here in the early days of the '90s and started a small general store. He was laughed at for investing his money in a sand hill, but lived to see it blossom as a rose. Mr. Greene made some enemies by his peculiar beliefs which he always eloquently defended. Mr. Greene was always a friend of the poor and needy. No worthy person ever asked a favor of him without receiving it. Every organization for the public good, always enjoyed gifts of money, etc., from him. He had passed whence he came, whither no man knoweth, He is gone but his memory will live long in the minds of those he has befriended."
