George Wells White, a retired Naval Academy instructor and a resident of 107 Charles St., died Wednesday in Anne Arundel General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 72.

A native Annapolitan, he was son of the late Joseph A. and Mary Windsor White. A veteran of World War I, Mr. White served in the Meuse Argonne Offensive during the Battle of Alsace Lorraine from Sept. 6 to Oct. 12, 1918.

The recipient of a Golden Chevron, he also served in the Navy from 1913 to 1915. Mr. White retired two yers ago frm the Department of Seamanship and Navigation at the U.S. Naval Academy where he served as an instructor.

Mr. White was a past commander of American Legion Guy C. Parlett Post 7 of Annapolis and a member of the Forty and Eight veterans organization.

He is survived by his wife, Helene Palm White of Annapolis; two daughters, Mrs. Melicent Collison of Mayo and Mrs. Marguerite Bunker of Mmokalee, FL.; two sons, David W. of Baltimore and Owen K. of Annapolis; a brother, Bernard W. White of Pleasant Hills CA.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Taylor Funeral Chapel, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests that friends desiring to make contributions make them to the Emphysema Research branch of Anne Arundel County Tuberculosis Association.
