Mrs. Sarah J. Barlow died March 21, 1896, age 73 years, 3 months and 15 days. Mrs. Barlow was born Dec. 8, 1822, in Henry county, Ky., and when fifteen years of age came with her father, in October, 1837, to Hendricks county.
She was married August 13, 1840, to Harvey R. Barlow and settled in this immediate neighborhood where she has lived ever since her marriage. She was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive.
In early life, she united with the Presbyterian church and was one of the charter members of the White Lick church, of which she has ever been a consistent and worthy member. Its prosperity and usefulness were always matters of her earnest interest and prayer.
Mrs. Barlow was a constant sufferer in her late years, but bore her sufferings with patience and christian fortitude.
In all the relations and duties of life she did her work well. She was a true wife, a devoted mother and a kind neighbor. She greatly loved her pastor and her house was always a pleasant home to him, and all she could do for his comfort and usefulness was done with the tenderness of a mother's love. Whenever health permitted she was in her place in the house of God on the Sabbath, and her earnest attention to the word was ever an inspiration to her minister. She received the word with meekness and was never disposed to criticise or find fault. She will be greatly missed not only by her children and relatives, but by all who knew and respected her, in the various walks of life. She has know for years that the tenure of her life was uncertain and during the past few weeks had been quietly arranging for her departure. The spirit was preparing to leave the worn, weary body and getting ready to move into the house not made with hands-eternal and in the heavens. It is an unspeakable comfort to know that the dear mother is softly at rest in the place prepared for her by the mother love of God. One of her favorite hymns was "We're Going Home." We cannot weep for her for we know that it is well with her soul.
A very happy company of her relatives and neighbors gathered at the church and the grave to express their respect and affection-to tenderly lay away the body, awaiting the resurrection of the just and the dawn of the glorious day of reunion in the new heavens and the new earth.
