Ruby was the daughter of John Hilry "Johnny" and Fannie Smith Nash. Her parents are buried in New Addition Annex of Palestine City Cemetery. Ruby was a member of the Crocket Road Church of Christ. She shares a stone with her husband, Floyd Marvin Gurganus, who she married 11 June 1949. She was residing in Elkhart at the time of her death there. She was survived by one daughter, Cheryl Smith of Kilgore; four sons, Felder Gurganus of Palestine; Adrian Gurganus of Tyler; Rodney Gurganus of California and Johnny Gurganus of Spring; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Wednesday, 21 December 2011.
