Dr. Hamilton, the son of Paul Hamilton, who was Governor of South Carolina, and appointed Secretary of the Navy in 1809 by James Madsion, was born and educated in Charleston; removed to Alabama in 1836 where he remained respected and honored in the practice of his profession until 1849 when he removed to this county.
