Obituary, Aug. 8, 1939:
Mrs. J. V. McLaughlin, 48, died early this morning at her home eight miles west and a half mile south of Clinton. She suffered a paralytic stroke Sunday. The Clem Gilliland Mortuary will be in charge of arrangements. Mrs. McLaughlin had been a resident of Custer County for about 40 years. She was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include her husband; eleven children, Roy of Arapaho, Clyde of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Sadie Sawatzky of Arapaho, Claud of Foss and Vera, Maggie, Everett, Lavon, Lena, Zora and Eugene, all living at the home of their parents; three brothers, George Dodson of Foss, John Dodson of Canute and Tom Dodson of Carpenter, Okla.; and three sisters, Mrs. Nora Spann of Foss, Mrs. Ollie Hawkins of Howard, Kan., and Mrs. Mollie Schwanderman of Ludlow, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the family home, eight miles west and a half mile south of Clinton.
