Maria Sacramenta Lopez de Cummings was the great grand daughter of Don Claudio Lopez, Majordomo at the San Gabriel Mission, from 1800-1820s. Maria Sacramenta Lopez married George Cummings who settled Cummings Valley in Tehachapi, Califonia. Cummings Street(in Boyle Heights) is named after George Cummings and Maria Sacramenta who inherited land on the east side of the Los Angeles River, known then as Paredon Blanco, from Sacramenta's father, Don Francisco "Chico" Lopez. The land had initially been granted to Maria Sacramenta's grandfather, Esteban Lopez, on September 28, 1835 by the Los Angeles Ayuntamiento.

Last rites for Mrs. Maria Sacramenta Lopez de Cummings, 80 year-old descendant of one of California's noted families, will be conducted tomorrow at 9 a.m. in St.Paul's Church, 4112 West Washington Street, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Lopez was a member of the Lopez family, her great-grandfather having been Claudio Lopez, who constructed the San Gabriel Mission by order of the King of Spain, and her grandfather having been Francisco Lopez, credited with having made the original discovery of gold in California.
She is survived by five sons, including Frank Cummings, chief clerk in the District Attorney's office. The others are Edward, Albert, Clarence and George. A daughter, Mrs. Fern Snyder,jr. and a sister, Mrs. Francisca de Bilderrain, also survive. Eugene Biscailuz, former undersherriff of Los Angeles County and now head of the state highway patrol, is the grand-nephew of Mrs. Cummings.
