POPE VALLEY -- Marvin H. Swift, 73, a native of Napa County, died at his Pope Valley home last night after a brief illness. He was a retired farmer and was born in Berryessa Valley in 1890. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Swift was the grandson of Capt. Granville P. Swift of the Bear Flag Party and the son of the late William T. and Annie L. Swift, early Napa pioneers.
Survivors include his widow, Delia A. Swift, Pope Valley; three sisters, Ethel Pelton, Placerville; Juanita Bidwell, Middletown; and Isabelle Sperry, Reno, Nev.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Chapel in St. Helena with the Rev. Robert Hansen of the St. Helena Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Yountville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Louis Ezettie, Phillip Gridley, Herbert Borchers, Lilburn Clark, Malcolm Green and Granville Swift.
