Alfred Abbott Sr., who would have been 93 next Friday died Saturday night in the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. L. Hannon, 231 S. Jefferson street.
Born in Wolverton, Buckinghamshire, England, Abbott cane to Marquette, Mich., in 1869. In the spring of 1873, he married Jane Patterson, of Marquette, and took her to England where the couple lived for five years, during which Albert Jr. and Nellie (Mrs. F. X. Basche) were born.
The Abbotts returned to America in 1878, settling in Escanaba, Mich., until 1888 when they moved to Green Bay. In 1914 Abbott retired after 34 years of serviceship with the Chicago and Nort Western railroad.
He was an honorary member of the Knights of Pythias, to which he had belonged for 54 years. His wife died 34 years ago.
Survivors include eight children, Alfred Jr., Mrs. F. X. Basche, Mrs. Hannon (Ada), William, Allan, Mrs. L. H. Meister (Mabel), and Mrs. Abbott Greenwood (Adelle), all of Green Bay; and Edward of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two nieces and one nephew in England.
The body is at the Schauer and Schumacher funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in Grace Lutheran church with the Rev. L. F. Gast officiating and burial in Woodlawn cemetery. Pall bearers will be Nathaniel and O. D. Stewart, John Rose, Ellison J. Smith, Robert T. Bennie, and Leslie Putnam, De Pere.
