James (Jim) R. Freeman, 84, of Brainerd, died on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Good Samaritan Village-Bethany in Brainerd.
Services for Jim will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd at 11 a.m. with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. Visitation will be held at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. Interment will be at The Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
James was born on March 31, 1927, in Minneapolis the son of the late J. Ralph and Cora (Klinger) Freeman. He entered the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge he was united into marriage to Ida Mae Hines on Sept. 29, 1949. Jim worked for Potlatch for 38 years. Ida Mae passed away on Oct. 28, 1995, after 46 years of marriage. Jim was united into marriagte to Arlene Hartman on June 6. 1997, in Brainerd.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Jim also loved wood working and spending time with his friend, Norman Roscoe. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Jim is survived by his wife, Arlene; children, Greg (Debbie) Freeman, of Seattle, Jackie (Jim) Range, LaCrosse, Wis., five stepchildren, Larry (Peggy) Hartman, Crosby, Minn., Wayne (Leta) Hartman, Fort Ripley, Minn., Sandra (Tim) Lander, Merrifield, Minn., Mike Hartman, Nisswa, Minn, Nancy (Greg) Gates, Fort Ripley, Minn., 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Ralph and Cora; first wife, Ida Mae; and brother Leland.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
