Records vary as to whether Richard was born in Cincinnati or in Queenstown, Ireland and immigrated with his parents William Cunningham and Mary Saunders. He married Ellen Ward in 1887. They moved to Pittsburgh for a few years to be near Ellen's sister Anna, but returned to Cincinnati in 1893 where Richard worked as a motorman for the traction company for 45 years. Richard and Ellen had seven children. Ellen died in 1909. Richard married Anna Kennelty on May 5, 1914. Richard retired about 1940. He died Dec 16, 1950 a few days after an accidental fall against a radiator in the home he had built at 1711 Pulte Street.

Union Officer's Father Dies
Richard P. Cunningham, 84; retired street railway motorman and father of William J. Cunningham, business representative of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, died Saturday in St. Francis Hospital. He lived with his son in the home he built 56 years ago at 1711 Pulte Street, Fairmount.
Cunningham had been a motorman for 45 years, serving 25 years in the Johns Street line and later on the Colerain Avenue and Westwood runs.
He also leaves his widow, Mrs. Ann Cunningham; another son Walter Cunningham, Los Angeles, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Murphy, Detroit; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The Peter Rebold funeral home will be in charge of the services.
