Service for Lois Thurmond Martin, 87, of Denton, was to be Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Cindy Nichols Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Denton. The Rev. Cliff Feeler was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
Pallbearers were to be Donald Dooley, Billy Joe Martin, Eddie Martin, Gary Martin, Steve Martin, Terry Martin, Tony Riley and Jimmy Thurmond.
Martin died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Denton.
Born Aug. 18, 1913, to John and Ruth Forrest, she married Elbert H. "Bud" Martin on Nov. 26, 1936, in Boyd. He preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1997. She graduated from Texas State College for Women (TWU) in 1955. She retired from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD as an elementary teacher in 1976 after 25 years of teaching. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, the Shakespeare Club and was a lifetime member of the Texas PTA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Thurmond and a sister, Marcella Houston.
She is survived by her son, John R. "Bob" Martin and wife Frances of Bedford; twin daughters, Ruth Brown and husband John and May Brown and husband Randy, all of Sanger; a brother, Jim Thurmond and wife Joyce of Haltom City; grandchildren Sherry Bedinger, David Brown, Kelly Seals, Patricia Minick, Karen Ford and Craig Martin; eight great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
