Retired Napa haberdasher, Ray Huyck died Sunday at Queen of the Valley Hospital following a brief illness. He was 84.
Mr. Huyck was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Huyck March 21, 1895, in Lompoc, where he was also educated.
He married the former Alberta Virchaux in Fairfield on his 24th birthday.

In 1912 Mr. Huyek came to Napa and worked for the E.R. Gifford Co. department store, then for Winship-Bard department store in the men's department. He joined the United States National Guard in Napa's Company H during the Mexican uprising, then served in the U.S Army, Ambulance Company 160, in France from 1917-19. After military service, he returned to Winship-Bard, later purchasing it in conjunction with several Napa businessmen and operating it until it was destroyed by fire. He worked for Abe Straus Clothiers for several years before serving as Napa County probation officer for many years. His last employment before retirement in 1969 was with Wigger Bros. Clothing Store.

Mr. Huyck was a member of Napa Parlor of Native Sons of the Golden West; a 50-year member of Napa Post 113, American Legion; Lompoc Valley Historical Society and Napa Elks Lodge.

His wife, Alberta V. of Napa, survives him.
Friends are invited to attend services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Gilmore of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will take place in the family plot at Yountville Cemetery, Honorary pallbearers will be Lou Ezetti, Phil Gibson, Henry Behrens, Paul Sanderson, Frank Ferrari and A.J. (Frenchie) Le Bel.
