His father, C. Russell Chapman was business manager for the Rockford Register Republic and Rockford Morning Star for several years. Chuck was the grandson of Mr. & Mrs. Roscoe Chapman (Mary Fern). Roscoe Chapman was one of the founders and vice president / director of the Rockford Morning Star and Rockford Register Republic.
Chuck attended St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin and served in the United States Army. Upon his discharge, he returned to Claremont Men's College (currently Claremont McKenna College) in Claremont, California to complete his college education.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Chapman, La Puente, California, two step children, Donna Foyt & Eric Foyt, children Chris Chapman, Boulder, Colorado, Jennifer Chapman, grand daughter, Cassidy, Portland, Oregon, and Russ Chapman (wife Misha), grand children Trevor, Corrine & Owen, San Diego, California and ex-wife, Carolyn Owen-Towle, also of San Diego, California.
