Mildred Irene Denton Mondl, 90, died on December 23, 2011 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Hixson, TN, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Mildred (Millie) was born February 14, 1921 in Fayetteville, TN, and lived most of her adult life in the Cleveland, OH where she raised a family. Mildred and her husband Adam lived in Chattanooga, TN since 1988.

Mrs. Mondl earned her nursing degree at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN in 1944. She was a staff/surgical nurse in Oak Ridge, TN, before moving to Cleveland where she spent the rest of her nursing career as a surgical nurse specializing in Ophthalmology.

Millie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, fishing, travel, picking antiques, and baking. Her specialty was her famous "Millie's Cheesecake" which she would bring to every social, church or family gathering.

She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church of Chattanooga, TN.

Millie Mondl was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and a brother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Adam Mondl, a sister, Elsie Turner of Lewisburg, TN, children Beverly (Barry) Ligon of Chattanooga, TN, Mark (Frieda) Mondl of Winston-Salem, NC, Joel (Patty) Mondl of Duluth, GA, and Theresa (Corky) Coker of Chattanoog, TN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be led by Reverend Bill Heaton of Mansfield, OH, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.

There will be visitation from 9 a.m. until the service at 10:30 a.m.

Interment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family would like to offer its sincere gratitude to the staff at Morning Pointe Assisted Living, the caregivers of Amedisys Hospice, caregivers Ann, Pat and Margo for their wonderful compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive #22, Chattanooga, TN 37421, or Amedisys Hospice, 7161 Lee Highway, Suite 400, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
