GRAY COURT, SC - Mary Lou Burnett Curry Haberman, 93, of 847 North Main Street, Gray Court, died in the Laurens County Hospital on January 2, 2009. She was the widow of Gray Rapley Curry, Sr.
Born December 27, 1915, in Greer, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Jeremiah Gates Burnett and Julia Anna Hill Burnett. She graduated from Greer High School.
During World War II, she married Corporal Gray Rapley Curry, Sr., at the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale officiated the ceremony.
Surviving are two (living info removed). Mary Lou was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Milford Burnett and one sister, Carrie Burnett Myers.
Mary Lou was always involved in music at her home church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greer, where she was a pianist and soloist. She has been a faithful member of Dials for 64 years, serving as choir director for over 40 years. Mary Lou has left a music legacy to her children, grandchildren and her church. She worked in the Gray Court Post Office, and was associated in the Curry Hardware store with her son, Gray R. Curry. As a widow, she operated the Curry Farm and Curry's Lake.
Services were conducted at Dials United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2009, with burial at the church cemetery.
The family received friends at Dials one hour prior to the service.
