April 9, 1770, he was appointed as freeman. He was a Veteran of the French and Indian War (1755-56) from Simsbury, for the protection of the Crown Point and for the services on Lake Champlain. Also Veteran of the Revoluntionary War, enlisted July 1775 under Captain Elihu Humphrey, 8th Continental Regiment as an Lieutenant, and 4th Company and the 18th Regiment under Lt. Joel Higley's company, discharged September 25, 1776. he was commissioned by the Gov. of Connecticut to Lieutenant. He purchased land near Marlborough in 1782, this homestead is still known as Higley hill, where he died.
In 1805 he married Bathsheba Lincoln.
