Warren Ogren, 88, of Hayward, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Warren Alfred Ogren was born October 25, 1923 in International Falls, Minnesota, the son of George and Annetta (Madson) Ogren.

He moved to Hayward in his youth and graduated from Hayward High School and attended two years at the University of Wisconsin.

He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps for several years before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. While in the Army, Warren joined the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and was stationed in China where he was monitoring Japanese Troop movements during World War II. For his time in the service, Warren was honored with the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, Three Overseas Service Bars, and one Service Stripe. Warren was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. After his time in the service, Warren moved back to Hayward and began work for the Postal service.

On February 3, 1948, Warren was joined in marriage to Vivian Pfister.

While working for the Hayward Post Office, Warren was promoted from postal carrier to Assistant Postmaster and was finally appointed to the position of Postmaster by President Lyndon Johnson. He served ten years as the postmaster and retired at the age of 55.

During his years as Postmaster and after, Warren was an entrepreneur and inventor in the Hayward area. He started several businesses, including a deer farm that became Wilderness Walk and Beehive Botanicals that began with his interest in bee keeping. He also purchased and sold numerous properties that he improved. Warren had several inventions patented, including a reciprocating piston engine and a gum that used propolis to help people stop smoking.

Warren enjoyed reading, golfing, singing, working on the computer, and playing poker or cribbage with his friends. He always had concern and generosity for others.

Warren is survived by his three children, Linda Graham of Hayward, Keith (Candace) Ogren of Seattle, Washington, Valerie Toolsie of Hayward; three grandchildren, Michelle (Russel) Forrester, Mathew (Madonna) Graham of San Francisco, California, Christopher Toolsie of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three great- grandchildren, Mackenzie, Parker and Warren; one sister, Eleanor (Jim) Grunewald of Cadott, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.
