Jacob Stroman descends from one of the original Swiss immigrant families who settled Orangeburg in 1735. He moved west to this area on Rocky Swamp about 1816, land records show, and owned a large slave-labor plantation. This small family cemetery is on the grounds of his one-time plantation.

Please note that the following graves are erroneously attributed to this cemetery:

33996861 - Balthasar Stroman
33997098 - Catherine Horger Stroman
33997413 - Hans Jacob Stroman
33996775 -- Hans Jacob Stroman
33997063 -- Heinrich Henry Stroman
33997573 -- John Jacob Stroman
33996940 -- Anna Barbara Stroman Zanger

These people listed above were among the original Stromans who immigrated from Switzerland and one of their wives. They settled about 30 miles to the east near the town of Orangeburg and were all dead by the time Jacob Stroman moved west to this area. There are no photos of their gravestones because none of them are buried here. Their burial places are unknown.
