He married Margaret "Maggie" Bell on January 19, 1894, in Hinds County, Mississippi. They had five children: Margaret Bell, Edward Downing Jr, Annie Laurie, Kathryn Elizabeth, and Ellen Beaman "Nell" Futch . He died on July 21, 1931, in Corpus Christi, Nueces, Texas, at the age of 70, and was buried there in the Evergreen Cemetery. His mother was the sister of my great grandmother, Arabella Nicholson "Belle" Bedwell Lee. He was my 1st cousin 3X .
