PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Clinton L. "Bud" Coates, 91, of Platteville, formerly of the Shullsburg and Cuba City area, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at ManorCare Health Services, Platteville.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Haudenshield Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cuba City, Pastor Calvin Hughes officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Carr Cemetery, Cuba City. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Clinton was born on Dec. 26, 1919, son of Roy and Lois (McNett) Coates. He married Betty J. Nolte in 1940; she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 1997. They were blessed with 14 children.

He worked in the area mines and farmed in the Grant County Area for more than 40 years.

Clinton loved to play cards and checkers. He also loved to dance. "Bud" enjoyed the company of family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his children eight sons, Jim (Marita), of Platteville, Fred (Lynn), of Lancaster, Kenneth (friend, Marilyn), of Cuba City, John (friend, Melody), of Platteville, Chuck (Pat), of Lancaster, Edward (friend, Carla), of Monroe, Carl (Diane), of Potosi, and Jerry (friend, Lisa) of Platteville; four daughters, Dixie (John) Hetzer, of Evansville, Bonnie (friend, Darwin) Pederson, of Prairie Du Chein, Penny (Terry) Johnson, of Hillsboro, and Ada (Larry) Olson, of Prairie du Chein; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews; and a sister, Bessie Webb, of Dubuque.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Michael and Faye; along with a sister and three brothers.
