Lera Samantha Foght
Lake-Odessa Mrs, Lera S. Stephens, 82 of lake Odessa MI died Sunday evening at pennock hospital in Hastings. Born near Lake Odessa June 22 1890, she was the daughter of Frank and Hannah Etta(Garfield) Foght.
She married Norman Elbert Blakely in June of 1911 and he died in November of 1941. She then married to Myrvell Stephens in Lake Odessa, April 5 1953.
A graduate from Lake Odessa high school in 1908 she taught the Odessa Center school for several years. In 1928 she move to Kalamazoo where she live for sixteen years before returning to Lake Odessa where she live her entire life.
She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for fifty years and was a member of its Martha Circle and women organizations. A member of West Odessa Missionary society. She also belonged to the Friendship Club Hospital Guild and Blue Star mother of America.
Surviving are a daughter Mrs Hazel Bos of Kalamazoo, and three sons Rev Harold Blakely of Bay Port, Norman Hale Blakely of McFarland Wisconsin and Herbert Blakely of Lansing 26 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren three sisters Dorothy of Lake Odessa, Mrs Verna Cooley and Mrs. Maysel Rush of Lake Odessa.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 pm at Lakewood United Methodist Church. Rev Charles Dunbar will officiate and interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery next to her second husband. Mrs. Stephens is at Pickens Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa.
