"MRS. FRANCIS WOOD
The death of Mrs. Francis Wood occurred at her home in Toronto, on
Saturday, November 28, following an illness of a little over two weeks,
from which she was apparently making a very good recovery. Mrs. Wood was formerly Miss Hester Moffatt, a daughter of the late Thomas Moffatt, and a descendant of some of Orillia's first settlers. She was born in Orillia sixty-two years ago, and was married forty-two years ago to Mr.
Francis Wood. About eighteen years ago they left Orillia and went to
Western Canada, later going on to the United States. For the past two
years they had lived at Toronto. Besides her husband, Mrs. Wood leaves four sons and two daughters, Messrs. Charles and William Wood, Severn Bridge; Mr. Frank Wood, Carley; Mr. Leonard Wood, in the United States; Mrs. Heroux, of Winnipeg, and Miss Muriel Wood, Orillia. There are also six grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister are Messrs. Bert and Wallace Moffatt of Dubuqe, Iowa; Mr. Leonard Moffatt, St. Paul, Minnesota. The remains were brought to Orillia for interment in St. James's cemetery. Service at St. James's church, on Monday afternoon, was conducted by the Rev. D.M. Rose, and the pallbearers were three sons of the late Mrs. Wood, Messrs. Frank, Chas. And William Wood, Mr. George Wilson, Mr. Leonard Maynard, and Mr. Frank Oram, of Severn. Friends of Orillia and from Toronto and Oshawa attended the funeral and many lovely flowers conveyed the sympathy of friends to the bereaved family. Amongst them were some from the A.Y.P.A. and from the choir of St. James's church, also from Rebekah lodge, of which Miss Muriel Wood is a member."
