ROANOKE, Ala. -- Mr. Jack Abernathy, 87, of Roanoke died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Abernathy is survived by three daughters, Mary Anne (Herbert) DeLee of Five Points, Ala., Jackie (Jeff) Smallwood of Roanoke and Patricia (Tyler) Knowles of Lanett; one son, Charles (Connie) Kelley of Valley; one brother, James Ledger Abernathy of Sylacauga, Ala.; 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Born July 17, 1916 in Chambers County, Mr. Abernathy was a retired mechanic from McClendon Trucking in LaFayette after 26 years of service. He had also served on the LaFayette Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Mr. Abernathy was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Center Baptist Church in Ridge Grove.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette.
