Joseph Askew
An Old Settler Dead
One of the oldest residents of Williamson county, Mr. Joseph Askew, died at his home a few miles south of Georgetown, last Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock. He was taken sick Saturday with a raging fever and bowel complaint, and being old and in feeble health, soon succumbed to the ravages of the disease. His remains were laid to rest yesterday afternoon, in the Presbyterian cemetery at this place. Mr. Askew was born in 1814, and came to Texas from Tennessee in 1850. He settled in Williamson County, and has lived there ever since, excepting two years. Being a pioneer settler, he was of that sturdy character necessary to meet the hardships and privations of such a life. He was a farmer, and one of our best and most worthy citizens. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn their loss.
