W. W. Coke Dies Here October 5
William Walter Coke, Sr., many years a resident of the Creighton Community, in the southeastern part of Cass County, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1964, in the Pleasant View Rest Home, a short distance north of Harrisonville, at the age of 84 years and 10 months.
His funeral, at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, was in the Creighton Methodist Church, the Rev. John R. Harvey, officiating. Two hymns were sung by Mrs. Harry Goodson, Mrs. Dee Borum, Mrs. Lenda Randolph and Mrs. Hazel Stites, the accompanist at the organ being Mrs. Hazel Sities.
Casket bearers were Gene Chandler, Harry Goodson, O. E. Randol, Roy Staley, George Wade, and J. D. Wise. Burial was in the Dayton Cemetery, south of Garden City, Mo.
Mr. Coke was born Nov. 12, 1879, in on a farm near Creighton, his parent being Mr. and Mrs. Beoni Coke. On Nov 1, 1904, he and Miss Viola Grosshart were married. They are parents of six children, William Walter Coke, Jr., Passaic, Mo.; Paul Coke, Stockton, Calif.; Mrs. Amy Kloster, Riverside, MO.; Noble Coke, Clinton, Mo.; Daniel Coke, Madison, Wis.; and Mrs. Martha Baldridge, Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Coke's wife preceded him in death, Aug 19, 1961, at the age of 76 years. He was a lifelong resident of the Creighton community, farming being his occupation as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the Creighton Christain Church, with which he united in 1921.
Surviving Mr. Coke are his six children, 22 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Leota May, Knoxville, Ill. Among the grandchildren is John B. Coke of Harrisonville.
