Clifford Cleaver was born June 25, 1869, in Indiana, to David and Eliza (Hayhurst) Cleaver.
On October 15, 1894, Clifford Cleaver, 25, married Alta Hurley, 16, in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Clifford was a farm laborer, and he and Alta were blessed with many children. For many years he farmed in Harrison County, Iowa. By 1920, he was farming on his own account, and not for others.
In 1920, when he was 50, and Alta 41, they had many children still living with them. There was Merry R (Mary?), 24; Floyd J, 22; James, 20; Florence, 18; Dell, 16; Agnes, 14; Francis, 12; Marrce (sp?) 10; Ruby, 8;, Hugh, 6; Leona, 4; Glenn, 2 (noted as a step-son--not sure how); John, 3 months (grandson). All of the children were born in Iowa except for Dell, who was born in Nebraska and Ruby, who was born in Oklahoma.

Death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cleaver, who live two miles east of the river bridge and took their son, Hugh, sixteen years old, who had been sick just a few days with flu and pneumonia. The body was brought to the Blair cemetery by way of Omaha. This makes the second death in this home in the past year, another son, James, dying a short time ago. The parents and relatives have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in their great sorrow.
