She taught school at the former Bronson and Luton schools and briefly in Sioux City. The former Dorothy Boyer married Harvey Hopkins on Nov. 17, 1942. She and Harvey raised five children in Sloan where she also did the bookkeeping for their business, Hopkins Plumbing and Heating. After Harvey's death Feb. 5, 1969, she worked for an attorney office in Sloan. Dorothy had always been an avid writer and had written a column for the local weekly paper, as well as regular correspondence with dozens of family and friends. She remained active in her church.
