Alvin Dean Garrett, Sr. 82, husband of Sybil Smith Garrett of 109 Guthrie Ave. Belton died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Harrison Garrett and Nellie Huff Garrett. He was the first full time fire chief for the city of Belton, he served 2 terms on Belton City Council, retired from Sullivan Hardware and he served in WWII US Army Air Corp. and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Eastview Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: daughters, Brenda Garrett Clark of Belton, Dorothy Garrett Phillips of Williamston; son, Charles "Archy" Garrett of the home; sisters, Lucile Mattison of Belton, Doris Tooley of Greenwood, Mildred Chasteen of Mauldin; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his brother, Harrison "Bob" Garrett; Sister, Ruth Williams; Daughter, Shirley Ann Garrett and Son Alvin Chip Garrett, Jr. He was twiced married to Mertie Rigdon Garrett and Wilma Chapman Garrett.
Services will be held 1:30 pm Sunday at Eastview Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Black and Rev. Kirk Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Greenville.
The body is at the home.
