Richard was the eldest living son of four children born to Thomas Blenkarn and Jennet Proude. He was baptized on 3 Feb 1606 at Terrington, Yorkshire, England. Richard married a lady named Alice (d. 1680), who outlived her husband as he mentions her in his will. She in turn mentions her late husband Richard of Terrington, in her will which is written in Latin and also upon some bonds she signed as one of the executors to assume that her sons will inherit that which is theirs. Those children not mentioned in the will were shown as baptized and buried on the church register prior to when their father wrote his will.

Richard and Alice had eight children:
