Bettie Mildred Janes Maxey, 87, of Marlin, entered into rest Dec. 15, 2011. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Stull officiating. Entombment will follow at 12 p.m. at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum in Waco. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Bettie was born in Lott, Texas, to the late Ulysses S. and Mary Ada Grisham Janes. Bettie graduated from Lott High School in 1942 and attended Blinn College. During World War II, she worked in an airplane factory in Fort Worth. After the war, Bettie worked as a secretary at a shipping company in Port Neches and that's where she met her future ship captain husband, Morgan Maxey. On his next trip into the New York City Harbor in 1945, Bettie flew to New York where they married. Bettie traveled all over the world with her husband. She and Morgan lived in Trinidad and a few years in Searcy, Ark. They also lived in Colon, Panama, for 18 years before total retirement in Marlin. Bettie was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bridge. She was a faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1996; and brother, Don Janes, in 2004.

Survivors include her sisters, Mary Adams and Lucy Pyland, both of Marlin; and brothers, Wilson Janes and James Janes, both of San Antonio
