He was born June 16, 1923, in Greenville. He graduated from Lubbock High School, where he played football and was a member of the team that won state in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the 9th Air Force, 42nd Air Depot, 22nd Mobile Repair Unit Co. He served in England, France and Germany.
He married Natalie Forson Stephenson on June 7, 1975. He worked at Reese Air Force Base from 1949 until Aug. 1, 1978. He worked as an Air Force repairman and later as fabrication branch chief.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard of Lubbock and Ted of Austin; one daughter, D'Aun Sanders of Lubbock; one sister, Ruth Allsup of Lubbock; two granddaughters; five step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
