Minnie was born in Marmet on April 3, 1866 in Marmet, Kanawha, West Virginia. Her parents were James and Elizabeth Reynolds Smith. She married William F. Abel, but was widowed after the birth of a son, Luther, who was born in 1884. She lived in Kasota, Le Sueur, Minnesota, at the rooming house belonging to "Aunt Kit", where so many of the Smith clan found their spouses. She and Thomas Addy were married about 1890 in Kasota. He was a railroad man. They had a son, Percy Rowe Addy, born April 10, 1891. Percy's middle name is Aunt Kit's married name. Minnie was chronically ill, and died in Sleepy Eye, Brown, Minnesota, in 1903. She is buried in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Her son Luther Abel also died young, at 20, in 1904. He is buried in the same cemetery.

The information about her death date came from the records of All Soul's Episcopal Church. Possibly, the headstone in the cemetery says she died in 1901.
