Charles Emil Bailey was born to Charles Hoover Bailey and Gracie Lee Cundiff in Jackson, Hinds County, Missisippi.

Charlie required a routine surgical procedure as a little boy while living in Jackson. The doctor left the anesthesia on for too long and caused significant brain damage as a result of this medical error. This required significant caregiving on the part of his family for the remainder of his life. The family relocated back to Louisville to obtain special medical care at Kosair Children's Hospital on Eastern Parkway.

Charlie loved fireworks. Each year, he'd set them off on Independence Day. He loved music -- Elvis and Whitney Houston were two of his favorites, and he enjoyed fishing.

He passed away in his 57th year in 2006 after suffering health complications while living in an assisted living facility in Louisville.

While born in Jackson, Mississippi, Charlie lived most of his adult life in Louisville, Kentucky. He moved with his parents to Hudson, Kentucky in the early 1980s and lived there until his father's death in 1992 when he moved back to Louisville and lived with his siblings.

Charlie's funeral mass was held at St. Helen Catholic Church in Louisville. Father Thomas Gentile was the officiant. He was buried next to his parents at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents, William Thomas Bailey and Florence Christine McMillen, and maternal grandparents, Ambrose Cundiff and Lula Mae Skeeters.

He was survived by his sisters, Estella Bailey (Howard) Padgett, Teresa (Mike) Mannering, brothers Anthony (Shari) Bailey, and Paul (Angela) Bailey; nieces, Paula Evans, Laura Padgett, Kelly Kirwan, Amanda Hanka, Jenna Bailey, and nephews, Dale Padgett, Craig Padgett, Christopher Padgett, and Brad Bailey.

Charlie was a very special person. May he rest in peace.
