Failed to return from a routine patrol flight over the Atlantic Ocean while serving as a naval aircrewman with Scouting Squadron One D Five (VS-1D5) stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS) Norfolk, VA. Also lost in this incident was Ens. Bernard M. Peterson.
