Jennie was the third of eight children born to Andrew D. Cook and Florence E. Fritts. The family moved from Mountain City, Tennessee to the Chewillikan Valley (east of Tonasket, WA) between 1902 and 1906.

Jennie married Purl O. (Earl) Walden on July 18, 1910 at Riverside, Okanogan Co, Washington. They had five children.
