Peter Hull Bird was born in Pendleton County, Virginia (now Pendleton County, West Virginia). He moved to Hardin County, Kentucky with his parents at age 2, where he later met and married his wife Mary C. Tabb. At age 25, he and his family accompanied his parents when they moved to Andrew County, Missouri.
Several years later, he and two of his brothers, John Y. and Eli Bird, travelled to California to see if they could strike it rich in the gold rush. Tragically, Peter perished shortly after arriving in California. His grave is unknown.
